**CE III - Traffic Engineer - Transportation**
**Transportation | Vernon Hills, IL | Full Time**
Job Description An exciting opportunity is available to join Gewalt Hamilton Associates, an employee-owned, multi-faceted civil engineering and land surveying company that has built a reputation of civil engineering with a personal approach. We are seeking a Traffic Engineer (CE III) to join our growing team located in Vernon Hills, Illinois.
The Traffic Engineer will report to the Division Director and will perform tasks for traffic engineering, traffic impact study projects, and other tasks as directed.
The responsibilities of the position include:
* Prepare Traffic Impact Studies and/or Transportation Planning projects for public and private sector clients.
* Works with other engineers and technicians on a project team, maintaining effective communication with project team members, other divisions, sub-consultants, and clients
* Client management and team coordination with other engineers, architects, and technicians as necessary to perform work.
* Attendance at project meetings, public meetings, and public hearings.
* Evaluate traffic data and perform field observations.
* Prepare engineering calculations, conduct complex analyses, and technical report writing in support of Traffic Impact Studies and Transportation Planning Studies.
* Traffic modeling and capacity analysis using HCS and/or SYNCHRO software.
* Review and analyze crash data.
* Assist with roadway, crosswalks, bicycle facility design, and geometric design.
* Preparation of traffic control device warrant analyses.
* Preparation of proposals which include scope, schedules, and budget.
* Coordinate with and provide support to other company divisions such as Site Design, Municipal, and Survey and Construction Divisions
* Comply with Divisions Quality Management Plan.
Required Knowledge, Education, and Experience:
* Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
* Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Illinois.
* Minimum of 8 years of traffic engineering experience required.
* Certification as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) preferred, but not required.
* Working knowledge of the following software programs: Highway Capacity Software (HCS), SYNCHRO / SimTraffic, and MS Office Suite (Word and Excel).
* Be familiar with traffic engineering guidelines, including IDOT, ITE, FHWA, AASHTO, and MUTCD publications for preparation of Traffic Impact Studies.
* AutoCAD and or MicroStation skills are desirable but not required.
* Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, complex projects at one time.
* Valid Illinois Drivers License and registered insured personal vehicle.

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Experience making public presentations.
* Ability to work independently with general supervision and as part of a larger team.
* Self-starting, detail-oriented individual, with organizational and interpersonal skills.
* A solid work ethic with the desire to learn and achieve.
* The ability to manage multiple projects.
* Efficient self-initiative to meet client deadlines.
